Many memorable scenes from the first to the iconic last, a great soundtrack, and three outstanding performances from Redford, Newman and Ross make this a film well worth investing your time in.

What can anyone say. These two outlaws were depicted as funny, when in fact they were cold-hearted killers. The camaraderie between them is obvious with Sundance depicted as the ‘brains’. Butch’s idea of retiring to Bolivia was one of his worst ones. No matter where they went, they were still wanted and they would’ve had to change their names and appearances to live longer. The t.v show Alias Smith And Jones which was loosely based on Butch and Sundance made Butch and Sundance appear as Sunday School children. Great entertainment if you want a laugh, but otherwise don’t waste time
I could have done without all the “Raindrops keep falling on my head” business, but overall this was a very fun movie, especially the banter between the two leads. They have some great chemistry and some great lines and Newman and Redford both really shine. In fact, I think I may have been more impressed with Redford in this one. He showed a side (a badass, frankly) that I didn’t really know he had.

This has got to be one of my favorite westerns. It has everything you could possibly want, The acting was a perfect from Redford and Newman, The writing was great and creative The directing by George Roy Hill was as well amazing… So, when you combine all the elements, you got yourself a Western Masterpiece.

Newman and Redford pair up for the first time as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: a pair of outlaws that are perpetually robbing. They are so prolific with their robbing that they take their craft across the border into Bolivia. Not even a language barrier is going to stop them from taking other people’s money.

As much as this is about the wild lawless lifestyle of Butch and the SDK it is probably one of the first love triangles. Sundance is hook up with Etta Place (Katharine Ross) but it’s clear that Butch loves her and she loves him. Somehow this criminal triumvirate does just fine emotionally where there is no outward hostility of one towards the other. I think that flowed from the light-heartedness of the movie. The movie was never too serious, even in the most dire times for the two protagonists. I think that was the biggest selling point for me. They were outlaws, and they would kill on occasion but it was almost like they were college frat boys who never stopped fratting. They lived life loose and carefree and nothing was going to change that.

You can find this biographical Western on many lists of the best movies of all time and it holds the 219th place on IMDb Top 250 list. The film tells the story of two legendary robbers and gunmen who were harassing the Wild West at the beginning of the last century. The sister of the real Butch Cassidy attended the shooting and was thrilled by how scenario and Paul Newman faithfully portray her brother. Technically, the film has no obvious shortcomings, Paul Newman and Robert Redford are excellent, and the rest of the cast are on the level too. The music is unusual for this genre, but very good and it won an Oscar. The film is an adventure crime drama, but it has a strong comic note, masterfully measured to be extremely fun but it does not escape into comedy. The strongest trump is certainly well-written dialogues that, although humorous and witty, serve not only as “comic relief,” but primarily for the characterization. In every respect, this is a great film, but still, it did not leave such a powerful impression that I would rank it at the very top of world cinema.

“Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” Wyoming, early 1900s. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid are the leaders of a band of outlaws. After a train robbery goes wrong they find themselves on the run with a posse hard on their heels. Their solution – escape to Bolivia. With its iconic pairing of Paul Newman and Robert Redford, jaunty screenplay and Burt Bacharach score, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid has gone down as among the defining moments in late-’60s American cinema.

What nonsense is this movie they must either decide between woman or bro-ness with each other to win. Sure enough she bounces and resigns them invisibly to their fate of destruction in a gunfight of greater numbers after robbing one bank too many. Easy gals or “serious relationship” woman like this one, make up your mind, these poor guys are just human and let them be in happiness. This wouldn’t be such a fuss if like in movies like James Bond movies easy gals are celebrated and he wins the day, unlike here. Other wise good technical gunfights, fun camaraderie between the two leads and good cinematography.

Paul Newman and Robert Redford star in this picture about the legendary outlaws with a great script, excellent chemistry between the two leads, exciting shootouts, saloon brawls and every other western movie staple executed in an interesting way.

While Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid has certain charms. It is totally lacking in depth. The characters wise crack like Hope and Crosby in a road movie. There is tons of filler like the middle sepia sequence with the trio in NYC. and then on the train to Bolivia. Plus speaking of trio what’s up with the one woman two men friendship? Wouldn’t Newman at some point get jealous?. And that terrible dabba dabba da soundtrack during the endless chase sequence in Bolivia. Basically,we are cheering for bank robbers and killers just because its Newman and Redford. On the plus side the movie looks great , it has the realistic feel of the 1880s , despite the dialogue and there is a chemistry between Newman and Redford that keeps it entertaining at least until Bolivia.

            1. LOL. I remember as a kid seeing a superhero movie called “Up, Up and Away”, which had a similar premise about a kid from a superhero family, not possessing superpowers of his own. The villains were environmentalists (LOL).

              1. I listened to both videos on that link. Very weird! I believe a lot of those types of things are spiritual attacks. Some of the stories might also be miracles of God. All I know is that there are a lot of things we don’t fully understand on this earth. Those are very interesting and intriguing stories. The story about Illinois and Iowa and the Mississippi River is real close to where I was born and where my Mom and Dad and most of my relatives live. They are only an hour from the Iowa/Illinois border at the river. I have driven in that area and been to the river many times. Very weird to hear about those stories out there. God bless!
